How To Create An At-Home Yoga Retreat

A getaway yoga retreat may not be in the cards for everyone. Aside from the expense, trying to get that time away for yourself may be a little difficult to swing. You can still have a yoga retreat all to yourself without spending the money or taking time away by following the tips below:

Plan A Day

Grab your packed schedule and look for one single day to take all to yourself. It's just one day, so you don't have to feel guilty about it. Mark it on your calendar to make it official and stick to this day. If you have kids, plan for them to go to a babysitter for the evening and send your spouse off for a night out without you. This way your house will be completely to yourself without any distractions.

Create The Space

Pick out a room in your house where you want to have your retreat. Pick a room that you feel most comfortable in and clean it out (move around furniture) to make room. Turn off phones, televisions and any other distracting devices in your home. Light some candles and turn the lights down a bit so it isn't too bright. Add some floor pillows and your yoga mat to the floor.

Plan Your Yoga

If you've been doing yoga for a while, you probably have a good idea of what yoga poses you want to do while on your retreat. If you aren't a regular yogi, you can break the no-technology rule and follow along with a yoga video online or on your television.

Take Time To Meditate

After yoga, take the time to meditate for awhile. Allow yourself time to breathe, think and get in touch with your body and your emotions. Turn the lights down and sit on one of your floor pillows for a comfortable area to meditate.

Stay Hydrated

Yoga can take quite a bit out of you, so be sure to keep yourself hydrated. Prior to your yoga retreat, be sure to drink plenty of water and tea to help detoxify the body. During your retreat, keep a bottle of water nearby so you can take a drink when needed. You can also use coconut water to help replenish electrolytes lost during your workout.

It may not be the same as a getaway retreat, but it can still be very beneficial. Take one day all to yourself and give yourself a retreat-like atmosphere to practice yoga, meditate and to re-energize. If you are looking for a real yoga retreat center, go to sites like this one.
